Killing time

I love my shower radio. Why? Because it allows me to hear important news stories in the morning, the most important of which might be Los Angeles' current 48-hour homicide moratorium. That's right. In honor of the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination, residents of the greater Los Angeles area are being asked not to kill anyone.

I believe it was one of Dr. King's finest speeches in which he proclaimed, "Consider not murdering anyone in two day chunks - it makes it less overwhelming."

The news story ended with this: "The homicide moratorium expires at 10:01pm tomorrow night."

And then, back to murdering!

This sounds like something out of "Dr. Strangelove". Especially the line from Peter Sellers: "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the war room!"

It ain't much different here in Texas, Molly. Since Katrina, homicide has risen 7 million %. As Will Ferrell so deftly spoofed G.W.Bush on SNL (speaking to George Sr. via telephone)... "Daddy, this job is harrd! I can't wait to get back to Texas. Back to more huntin' and executin." God Bless MLK Jr. That man has a special seat in Heaven, for sure.

Your newcomer observations of the Southern California life are insightful, accurate, and hilarious. Thanks to Sonic, I will have many more laughs from your future commentaries of SoCal. Good luck in that jungle they call Hollywoodland!

P.S. Tell your Sonic bosses you must be doing something right ... you got at least one person to try out Sonic :)

While I appreciate the irony of your commentary and admire your skillful way of turning a comedic phrase, in typical Hollywood, lefty, Commie fashion, you're ignoring the fact that some people jus' need killin'. And when somebody needs killin' 48 hours can seem like an eternity...

Have fun on the last of these murder-free days. Might want to stroll through some particularly rough areas this afternoon, just because you can - you never know when we'll get another moratorium!

You know where people don't get murdered for more than 48 hours?

Hartford.

If they do...tons of insurance. Count it.

We don't have this problem in San Francisco because I make sure the punks don't feel lucky.

At first, when I read this, I thought this had to be fake and so I laughed. Then I realized it wasn't and it was just sad, very, very sad.

I understand there may be comedic value to your comments, or possibly something historic.

But honestly, I just can't get over you being in the shower. haha!

my thoughts and prayers are with you Molly. Due to your lack of posting since the expiration of the murder moratorium, I can only hope that you are still alive and well...

it's good to see nice gestures like this every now and then. we could use more pauses in murdering. i hear NY is going to follow suit with a 2 day moratorium against public urination.

Maybe they can make it a year round moratorium to not kill people on Martin Luther King Blvd! Then at least one street would be safe.

Hi Molly,
I just moved to SoCal(S.D.)a little less than a year ago, and it is definitely a different world. I know S.D. has nothing on L.A. but since you've lived out East I'm sure you get my meaning:) Anyways, I love your commercials(unfortunately the closest Sonic is in Anaheim!)and you do a fantastic job...keep it up:) If you are ever in S.D. lunch is on me;)

Oh, thank god.

I up and murdered someone at exactly 10:03. I mean, had I been a bit more zealous — if it were, say, a murder of passion — I might have done a disservice to Dr. King's memory. Which would have been soooooooooo embarrassing. (I'm always doing that sort of thing.)

That said, on Stalin Day...

Your comment about bad news on the radio made me think of the Roberta Flack song "killing me softly with this song ..."

Although murders are dissuaded, you are free to consider yourself available to commit your normally scheduled acts of physical and emotional cruelty and any previously scheduled or spontaneous inspired physical maimings. Thank you, MLK.

If they ever do a movie based on Janet Evanovich's books, you should play the lead role in it. You are so funny and cute. Is there a place I can go to watch all the commercials you have done for Sonic? They are my favorite commercials on TV.

I wish you great future success in show business.

Hi Molly,

I like your blog. It caps my curiosity about what actors do with their time between gigs and auditions. I'm guessing you must have nerves of steel to brave auditions and criticism. But it sure beats a nine-to-five job in a cubicle.

I hope you hit the big time with a tv show or a personal measure of success.
